Pair Program

The goal of the program is to offer a personalized service of daily automated calls to the elderly to ensure their well-being. The participants receive the calls at a predetermined time, once or several times a day.

The Pair Program is a way of living in a community that cares about the well-being of its population. A service that provides reassurance and gives the elderly a sense of independence while guaranteeing their security and providing peace of mind for their family and friends.

Who can join?

Any retired, sick or person living alone can participate in this free program.

How to proceed?

Those interested in joining the program can communicate directly with the program coordinator at the Centre de Bénévolat de la Rive-sud, 450-679-5916. The Réal-Bilodeau Pair agency of the Longueuil agglomeration and operated by the CBRS offers the service to residents of Boucherville, Brossard, Longueuil (Greenfield Park, Saint-Hubert, Vieux-Longueuil, including Le Moyne), Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Saint-Lambert.

This security service is offered by 42 local agencies and it covers more than 400 municipalities. It has already saved 38 lives in Quebec in 2008 and 56 in 2009. Some of the agencies have been operating since 1990. In the 2009, the Pairing Program had over 1800 subscribers.

Operation of the Pair Program

The service will get in contact with the participant on a daily basis and at a chosen time, by using a computer that will give a specific and personalized message. By answering the telephone, it will show that the participant is able to call 911 if he needs help. However, if there is no answer, the automated system will call back within a short period of time. If no one answers after the third attempt, an alert procedure will be set in motion and steps will be taken for someone (family member, friend, neighbour, police officer, volunteer) to go to the participant's home to do a verification.

If the participant plans on being away for a day or more, he must tell the Pair Program coordinator. The service will start again when the participant returns.
